It is our pleasure to introduce Ms Thea Schei, who will be the Theme Leader of the Illness and Disorder group for the 2016 JRP internship. Thea has vast experience in both academic research and mental health practice. She is a PhD student in the Behavioural and Health Research Unit of the Institute of Public Health, University of Cambridge, where she is investigating the impact of social values on food consumption.
Biography
After obtaining a degree from the University of Oslo, Thea received a postgraduate degree at the University of St Andrews, where she was commended for Outstanding Performance and earned a place on the Dean’s List. She then completed a MPhil in Social and Developmental Psychology at the University of Cambridge.
Her research topics include dementia and related scaffolding behaviour, parental restrictiveness, psychosis early intervention, and eating behavior. She also worked with patients with mental health problems, has led body image workshops, and has facilitated help group for students suffering from eating disorders. For her doctoral research, she is combining her experience studying morality, social psychology, and mental health in exploring the social and cultural factors surrounding food consumption.
