We are thrilled and extremely proud to announce that the replication study conducted by JRP members and alumni has been published in Nature Human Behaviour!
Members of our 2018-19 cohort carried out this project, led by JRP Director Kai Ruggeri, during their research internship in Cambridge, UK, last year.
The paper replicates methods from one of the most cited and influential papers in behavioural science – Kahneman and Tversky’s 1979 Prospect Theory paper. The study built on an extensive, cross-national dataset – overall, 4,000 people in 19 countries were recruited, and the study material covered 13 languages.
Overall, our researchers found that response patterns for decision making under risk identified in the original paper more than 40 years ago, although somewhat attenuated, still hold true today across multiple countries and languages.
Having in mind the replication crisis in psychology, as well as the immense scientific impact of Prospect Theory and its widespread applications to policy and industry, we are thrilled our members have contributed to reexamining its foundations and thus made a substantial contribution to psychological science! We congratulate all of the 31 researchers on their tremendous work.
