If there is one thing you should know about JRP, it is how much we love international collaborations. As another indication, over the past academic year, we have been fortunate to partner with Columbia University (New York, US) to work on a joint mission and create opportunities for early-career researchers in behavioural science.
The GLOBES students
In the spring of 2020, 14 students who applied for the Global Behavioral Science (GLOBES) initiative at Columbia completed a course focused on conducting research on a global scale. The course was led by our Executive Director, Dr Kai Ruggeri, who is also faculty at Columbia.
In the summer following, GLOBES students participated in several virtual JRP events, including the Open Conference at the jSchool, the internship, August Conference, and Alumni Day. During those events, they had the opportunity to expand their professional network internationally, develop research skills, and gain insights about different career pathways from our alumni who work in academia, industry, and the public sector.
The largest of these activities for GLOBES students was the internship, which provided a unique opportunity to gain hands-on research experience through conducting a large scale replication study across 25 countries together with the JRP interns and some of our alumni. Each student was involved in adapting and translating the materials of the original study to the country they were assigned to work on, as well as collecting data. They were also able to develop soft skills such as team work.
The 14 GLOBES students are now officially part of our alumni network and we look forward to seeing them at our events again, plus welcoming new GLOBES participants to future JRP cohorts.
