In this study, we will investigate the interplay between metabolic state, impulsivity, self-control, and their combined effects on risk-seeking behaviour. While changes in the metabolic state have been linked to differences in risk-seeking behaviour, there is no consensus on the direction. Trait impulsivity mirrors the bottom-up control circuits while self-control reflects top-down control circuits. Both traits may modulate risky decision-making under the influence of the current metabolic state.
We will employ a randomised cross-over design with within-subject factors for metabolic state and a between-subject design for impulsiveness and self-control. Recruitment will be conducted online through various social media platforms. Understanding these interactions will offer valuable insights into decision-making processes, behaviour regulation, and potential interventions for risk-prone individuals.
