What does impact look like in a young psychologist?
Allow us to present Ms Sadhbh Byrne, PhD candidate in child and youth psychology at Trinity College, Dublin. A 2012 JRP graduate, her research and additional roles have made waves in her native Ireland. Beginning with her undergraduate thesis Mental health literacy and help-giving behavior in rural Irish adolescents, which received the Una Burke Memorial Prize in Child Psychology, Sadhbh’s work has received praise and recognition across the country.
Involved with several children and youth programmes, she is conducting a formidable amount of research on youth mental health that reflect her deep interest in the subject matter. Her work on adolescent mental health literacy has been highlighted by a number of news outlets, including the Irish Mirror, UTV, the Irish Examiner, Irish Health, and the University Times, which demonstrates that even when young, tremendous impact is possible. This is only on top of her many civic-minded endeavours, which make her an exemplar amongst young professionals.
Since finishing her year in the JRP in 2012, she has had a tremendous impact on the programme from afar. In her role as Communications Officer of the Psychological Society of Ireland, Student Affairs Group, she was responsible for the tradition of excellent representation from Irish universities. When not lecturing or carrying out her other duties, she is investigating the factors associated with parental and peer support for young people with depression. We are all very grateful for her contribution to the field and are looking forward to what comes next.
